THE PROGRAM

Program Summary:

The After School Program is a supplementary creative education opportunity for children and young people in Sámara. It consists of extra-curricular educational opportunities such as language lessons, technology, music, art, local folklore, dance, theater, environmental education, horticulture, sports, and values and society classes.  The intention of this program is to fill a gap in the development opportunities for the youth of Sámara, Costa Rica, who currently have no type of creative activities or learning programs available to them outside of the regular school program. Although good primary and secondary schools do exist, both private and public, at the end of the school day most children are left to their own devices, often without adequate supervision as most parents must work full time to maintain their families. The After School  program occupies the children’s free time not simply with fun activities, but rather with a true opportunity to develop the creative and other skills which are not included in the regular public school curriculum. Creating a program which provides children with new learning opportunities not only enhances their own educational and personal growth but that of the town's future.
